NEW YORK, Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Foot Locker and DoSomething.org are partnering to offer 20 college scholarships to 20 amazing young student athletes. The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program honors students who demonstrate academic excellence and show their strength of character and devotion to their sports, as well as their communities. Students will be rewarded not because they scored the most touchdowns or ran the fastest mile, but because they have become strong leaders in the community, exemplifying sportsmanship both on and off the field. It is the award for flexing heart, not muscle.

"Foot Locker has always been deeply committed to empowering today's youth through education," said Ken C. Hicks, Chairman, President and CEO, Foot Locker, Inc. "We are thrilled to partner with DoSomething.org to celebrate young, active adults for their exceptional dedication to academics and the community, while providing them with the incredible opportunity to further their education."
"We love jocks, but not just for their muscles," said Nancy Lublin, CEO & Chief Old Person at DoSomething.org. "With Foot Locker, we are giving them the chance to take their heart, drive and competitive spirit off the field and apply it to their educational goals."
Applicants must be college-bound, participate in a sport and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Participants will be required to submit three essays and two recommendations. All applications will be reviewed by a panel of scholarship experts and celebrity judges.
Fastweb, a trusted scholarship and financial aid resource used by students to help find opportunities to pay for school, is supporting the scholarship program.
