Ford City Mall Announces New Stores and Next Phase of Redevelopment

CHICAGO, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracy Munno, general manager of Ford City Mall, today announced that lease extensions have been signed with anchor stores Carson's and JCPenney, and that both retailers are planning interior renovations. JCPenney will also add a new Sephora store inside, which is expected to open in late spring 2016. In other leasing news, Five Below, a discount retailer of teen and pre-teen style trends, will be opening a new store at Ford City Mall in fall 2016. Negotiations were also completed with existing tenant Famous Footwear for relocation to a new space in the North Mall, slated to open in early summer 2016.

Ms. Munno says that additional lease negotiations are currently in progress. "The goal is to make Ford City Mall the premier shopping destination in South Chicago, so the leasing team's focus right now is to bring in more apparel retailers and restaurants," she says.

Interior Renovations and New Outparcel Construction Planned
This leasing strategy is part of the overall redevelopment plan to upgrade the mall. "Ownership is really committed to serving the community and its residents," she says. "There are a lot of exciting things in store for 2016." According to Ms. Munno, interior mall renovations planned for 2016 include new corridor seating, new lighting and flooring, and a remodeled food court that will allow for more dining options to appeal to everyone's taste. The construction of new outparcel buildings is also planned for 2016, which are expected to house family dining and other retailer offerings.

Other Redevelopment Activity
Mall improvements to date include the following:

• Late 2014 / Early 2015: AMC Theaters completed a multi-million dollar renovation featuring 14 auditoriums with plush recliner seating and digital projection, a MacGuffins Bar and Lounge (for guests 21 and older), reserved seating and mobile ticketing options.
