WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) Board Chair Victor J. Dzau, MD, chancellor for health affairs, Duke University, president and CEO, Duke University Health System, and the James B. Duke Professor of Medicine, yesterday was named president of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). The IOM is the health arm of the National Academy of Sciences.

"It has been an honor for me to work with Dr. Dzau as an AAHC member and during his tenure on the Board," said AAHC President and CEO Dr. Steven A. Wartman.  "His leadership and vision makes his selection as IOM President an exceptional choice, and we look forward to working with him in his new capacity."

Internationally renowned as a leader in global healthcare strategy and delivery, Dr. Dzau has demonstrated that academic health centers must lead the transformation of medicine through innovation, translation, and globalization. He is an ardent supporter of and visionary leader for academic health centers globally, and was instrumental in the creation of the Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI), the international arm of AAHC and voice for academic health centers worldwide.
