Former Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance Returns to Hellman & Friedman
Jeffrey Goldstein Rejoins Firm as Managing Director
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hellman & Friedman LLC, a leading private equity investment firm, today announced that Jeffrey Goldstein has rejoined the firm as a Managing Director. Mr. Goldstein returns to Hellman & Friedman after serving as Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance and Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury from 2009 to 2011.
Mr. Goldstein will be based in Hellman & Friedman's New York office and will resume his investment focus on the financial services sector. During his previous tenure at Hellman and Friedman from 2004 to 2009, Mr. Goldstein co-led the firm's investments in LPL Holdings and Grosvenor Capital Management. He will also now take on new responsibilities engaging with the firm's Limited Partners.

Mr. Goldstein has almost 30 years of public and private sector experience in the financial sector. As Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance and Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury, he advised the Secretary on policy issues related to the US banking and financial systems, regulatory reform, financial stability, federal government financing, US housing finance, management of the US Government portfolio of investments in financial institutions and auto companies, fiscal affairs and related economic and financial matters. He was also the Chairman of the Deputies of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and served on the Board of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and was the Board Representative to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Before his original tenure at Hellman & Friedman, Mr. Goldstein served as Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank, where, among other responsibilities, he oversaw the bank's work with its client countries in strengthening financial and capital markets systems. Prior to his five years at the World Bank, Mr. Goldstein was Co-Chairman of BT Wolfensohn and a member of the Bankers Trust Company Management Committee. He held senior management positions and worked with BT Wolfensohn and related companies for more than 15 years. In addition to his managerial responsibilities, Mr. Goldstein also served as a financial adviser to banks and other financial institutions and industrial corporations in Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. Early in his career, Mr. Goldstein taught economics at Princeton University and worked at the Brookings Institution.
Mr. Goldstein received his Ph.D., M. Phil., and M.A. in Economics from Yale University. He received his B.A. in economics from Vassar College and attended the London School of Economics.
