Former Wachovia SEVP Shannon McFayden discusses behaving like a man in the workplace, how HR should work itself out of a job, and why there is always more to the story of the 2008 financial crisis
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Talent Tribune, an HR news outlet launched this summer, interviewed Shannon McFayden, former Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Human Resources and Corporate Relations at Wachovia, the nation's 4th largest financial institution in 2008. The interview spanned a variety of topics, from building a strong employer brand to what she learned from Wachovia's demise.
"The truth is," McFayden says, "Leaders can make the right decision 99% of the time, but one bad decision can wipe out 99 good ones."
Named one of the "25 Most Powerful Women in Banking" by US Banker, Shannon also discusses the moral responsibility of corporations when it comes to domestic abuse, and what it was like being a high-power woman in finance. "For the first 20 years of my career," she says, "I spent energy trying to figure out 'How can I understand how men do their jobs, so that I can do my job like they do?' It was about 10 years ago that I had a huge realization that it was not only impossible, it was robbing the organization."
