Fort Carson Soldier Killed in an Alleged "Suicide by Cop" Incident
Spartan Alliance covers the Burial after receiving grant because the VA would not
WASHINGTON, June 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Help came too late for Edwin Fuentes, a young veteran who served as an infantryman in Afghanistan. Fuentes had a 90 percent disability rating for PTSD, and sadly lost his life on May 17th in an apparent suicide by cop incident that took place in Tustin, CA. Fuentes left behind a young wife and a one-year old son.
With the recent loss of her husband, Mrs. Fuentes did not have the means to pay for the burial and his body has been sitting in the County morgue for the past three weeks. His friends and family have gallantly been trying to raise the necessary funds, due to the fact that the Veterans Administration does not cover a combat veteran's funeral.
"This situation is simply unacceptable," said Boone Cutler, spokesperson for the Spartan Alliance. "The real disgrace is that the government is willing to spend the estimated $850,000/year to keep a single infantry soldier in Afghanistan, but does not see fit to spend the $10,000 to bury that same soldier when he or she is no longer on active duty and a tragedy like this occurs. This troubles me deeply."
We may not be able to change the Veteran Administration's burial policy, but thanks to the Spartan Alliance and Warfighter Hemp, a recent donor, the Spartan Alliance is able to make sure that this soldier gets a proper burial with the dignity that he deserves after having served his country with honor."
Colorado Cultivars, operator of the largest Industrial Hemp Farm in the United States, recently launched the Warfighter Hemp product line of CBD Oil, specifically targeted to aide the veteran population. Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of CBD in combating the symptoms of PTSD, acute pain, and reducing an individual's reliance on addictive pain medications and opioids for pain management. Additionally, Colorado Cultivars has committed to donating 50 percent of the profits from the Warfighter Hemp line to veteran charities who they see as being on the front lines of addressing the myriad of issues facing the veteran community.
Infused with high grade CBD Oil, the Warfighter Hemp product line offers a non-psychoactive alternative to commonly prescribed opioids and is rich in anti-oxidants, flavonoids, Omega-3 and Omega-6 acids that can be legally sold in all 50 states. Warfighter Hemp is also the only product of its kind that is both certified as being grown 100 percent organic and Kosher.
"As a veteran myself, I can attest that the benefits of CBD have long been understood and put to use in the veteran community," continued Cutler, who also hosts a syndicated Fox News radio program. "That Colorado Cultivars will donate 50 percent of the profit from their Warfighter Hemp product line to support veteran non-profits is simply mind blowing. I have never heard of a company doing such a radical thing and it goes to show what true patriots they are."
Cutler is known as the creator of The Spartan Pledge. The Spartan Pledge is nothing more complex than a two sentence oath that one veteran gives to another pledging that they will be there for one another as a "Battle Buddy" and that they promise to reach out during a time of crisis before doing any irreparable harm to themselves.
The Spartan Alliance is a consortium of 501(c)(3) non-profits, organized by the nonprofit Independence Corps whose mission is to provide for veterans severely injured, both physically and mentally, with the tools, therapies and guidance needed to live as independently and productively as possible. The Independence Corps has been a recipient of a "Newman's' Own" grant to military charities for the past two years in a row.
The Spartan Alliance is a project of the Independence Corps and is dedicated to lowering the veteran suicide rate to a number below the national average. Colorado Cultivars and the Spartan Alliance are both excited by the possibility that the Warfighter Hemp product line will provide one big step in helping to make that vision become a reality and in doing so helping many more veterans and families like the Fuentes. Edwin Fuentes will be buried this Friday in Santa Ana, California.
