Foster Care Counts To Honor Foster Moms And Families At Mother's Day Celebration Sunday, May 12
Over 1,000 foster parents and children will be honored with a day of fun, entertainment and relaxation
LOS ANGELES, May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Foster Care Counts, the non-profit organization founded by Jeanne Pritzker that's dedicated to bettering the lives of foster children and families in Los Angeles, will host its fifth annual Foster Care Counts Mother's Day Celebration Sunday, May 12. Together with numerous community-based organizations, Foster Care Counts will be honoring foster youth and families at a private home in Topanga with a day filled with fun, entertainment, food, relaxation and pampering. This year's corporate partners include Nestle, Paul Mitchell®, Jouer Cosmetics and Wolfgang Puck Catering. All activities are made possible by a large team of dedicated volunteers, which will include cast members Jake T. Austin, David Lambert and Cierra Ramirez of ABC Family's new drama series, "The Fosters."
"There are more than 35,000 foster youth in Los Angeles County," said Jeanne Pritzker, founder of Foster Care Counts, "many who seek loving families and many who have found them. Mother's Day seems like the perfect time to shine a light on foster families for the love, kindness and support they offer and to show our appreciation with a day filled with fun, relaxation, and entertainment."
"I greatly appreciate the generosity and kindness shown by Foster Care Counts and our community partners by creating this wonderful event for our foster mothers and children," said Philip L. Browning, Director, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. "I wish all of our foster mothers a happy Mother's Day!"
As Mother's Day recognizes the hard work of moms in all households, Foster Care Counts believes it is important to celebrate the special parents who are helping to raise children who need alternative living situations. And when better to do so than May, National Foster Care Month.
Paul Mitchell®, Jouer Cosmetics, Nestle, and Wolfgang Puck Catering will be joining Foster Care Counts in celebrating foster parents and children on Mother's Day. "Wolfgang and I are passionate about giving back. Our team is very pleased to support an event and an organization that touches so many young lives. We always like to think that good food brings people together," said Carl Schuster, CEO, Wolfgang Puck Catering
The Kids' area will have carnival games, arts and crafts, magicians, balloon artists, face painting, a petting zoo and more. Guests will spend time in a special clothing boutique that will give them the opportunity to take home new and gently used clothing for themselves and their families.
Visitors to the spa will enjoy pampering with manicures and hairstyling touch-ups by Paul Mitchell stylists and makeup sessions from Jouer Cosmetics. All guests will receive a spa gift bag with beauty products donated by partners and sponsors. Families can have family portraits taken, framed and decorated to preserve the memories of this "special day."
Jake T. Austin, David Lambert and Cierra Ramirez of ABC Family's new drama series "The Fosters" will pitch in as volunteers. "The Fosters," about a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological children being raised by two moms, will premiere on Monday, June 3 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC Family.
Foster Care Counts' mission is to raise awareness and engender public support for the struggles faced by foster youth and to advocate and raise funds on their behalf. To learn more about how you can support foster youth in our community, visit www.fostercarecounts.org.
