Accelerated physical therapists are providing the screenings to help sufferers better understand the source of their headaches and obtain information about treatment.
A headache evaluation is performed by a licensed physical therapist and includes an assessment of an individual's medical history, range of motion in the neck, joint mobility and a posture analysis. The physical therapist will also take time to educate about headache triggers and prevention strategies.
The screening will determine if the headache is cervicogenic. This particular type of headache is typically the result of structural and alignment issues in the neck, which can be caused by dysfunction of spinal discs, stiff joints, an excessive amount of stress to the neck and spine as a result of an injury, poor posture and/or muscle tension.
Accelerated physical therapists are extremely proficient at treating cervicogenic headaches and can relieve pain, improve neck function and restore the sufferer's quality of life. If necessary, the company's physical therapists will also refer to a physician for further evaluation.
Under the direction of a physician, the Accelerated headache team treats cervicogenic headaches with the following specialized techniques:
- Manual therapy techniques, such as joint mobilization and soft tissue massage
- Exercise and stretching
- Postural and body mechanics education
- Pain relieving modalities
