Frost & Sullivan: Asia-Pacific Market Enterprise Mobile Collaboration Services to Witness Strong Growth; Cloud-based and Hybrid Delivery Model to Coexist Integrated solutions are likely to be preferred over standalone applications in the near future

SINGAPORE, March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The growing mobile and remote workforce is pushing enterprises across Asia-Pacific to adopt comprehensive mobile collaboration services. Unified communication (UC) vendors and cloud service providers with mature hosted/cloud infrastructure are offering solutions based on different subscription models to cater to varying end-user needs. While basic mobile collaboration service packages – with email, calendar, contact and IM/presence – have commanded the most attention thus far, advanced cloud-based enterprise mobile collaboration services including mobile voice and conferencing will dominate the market in the future.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the Enterprise Mobile Collaboration Services Market in Asia-Pacific, CY2013, finds that the total number of active users is estimated to be US$1.12 million in 2013 and forecasted to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 21.4% through 2018. The study covers mobile email, voice, messaging, and conferencing solutions of which mobile voice, messaging, and conferencing represent key growth areas.

Currently, the adoption of mobile collaboration services hosted in public/hybrid cloud environments is low among the price-sensitive, large enterprises in Asia-Pacific that already have premises-based ICT infrastructure.

"However, cloud-based enterprise mobile collaboration services will soon gain traction due to the improved security and lower upfront investment requirement," said Frost & Sullivan Information & Communication Technologies Industry Manager Jessie Yu.

"Many organizations have started adopting hybrid mobile UC collaboration solutions – keeping the core UC infrastructure on premise and moving other UC applications such as instant messaging (IM)/presence and conferencing to the cloud," she added.

The market will also begin to favour integrated mobile communication applications over standalone solutions as they bring cost savings and considerably enhance user experience. Integrated services including IM/presence, unified messaging, audio, video, and web conferencing are expected to become especially popular in the small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) segment.

At present, the development of mobile broadband varies among Asian countries, which is considered to be a major challenge for enterprises to migrate mobile collaboration solutions into the cloud. This is particularly so among SMBs with operations in several countries as the quality of wireless network infrastructure varies widely among developed countries such as Australia, Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong, and growth economies like China, India, and Indonesia. Such gaps are likely to be closed within the next five years as wireless network upgrades to 4G and long-term evolution (LTE) take place across Asia.

"Service providers should fine-tune their licensing strategies to cater to new use cases and innovative ways of working," advised Yu. "They must also offer solutions that enable flexible deployment and consumption, dynamic business process integration, and easy access from any endpoint to succeed in the Asia-Pacific market."
