Frost & Sullivan Examines Expectations and Apprehensions of End Users in the Global Cloud Computing Market
Control, security, and legacy systems are primary concerns affecting choice of cloud solutions in enterprises, according to the survey
LONDON, Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterprises around the world understand the cloud concept and its benefits, however they still have mixed opinions regarding the implementation of cloud computing. With some optimistic views about the technology advantages, many companies still remain skeptical about the technology's reliability.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.ipcommunications.frost.com), Global Enterprise Cloud Computing Market Survey — An End-user Perspective, finds that the cost-effectiveness and scalability of the cloud are key factors driving its use among enterprises. Many businesses, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom, are keen on employing cloud solutions. However, those in Western European countries such as Germany and France cite safety concerns as the reason for holding back.
"Organisations are willing to adapt to evolving consumer needs in order to strengthen their position in the market, and cloud systems are viewed as a catalyst that could enable positive change and impact external customers," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst, ICT, Shuba Ramkumar. "However, the availability of numerous cloud offerings in the market, ambiguity regarding choice of cloud models, and the process involved in cloud transition complicate the decision-making process."
The uncertainty among prospective users of cloud computing solutions, about cloud deployment models and the choices available to them, offers cloud service providers an opportunity to enhance clarity in decision-making. Security issues surrounding the cloud remain a top concern. Compatibility with existing legacy systems and the level of enterprise control over cloud-related decisions are other issues affecting uptake.
It is important that enterprises partner with cloud service providers to ensure the deployment of a reliable cloud solution that can complement existing systems in the enterprise. Cloud service providers must offer services through a collaborative effort, since enterprises expect to have control over strategic processes with additional support from the partner in the form of expert recommendations and assistance.
"Enterprise attitudes vary between different regions and verticals and it is vital that cloud vendors provide cloud services accordingly," suggested Ramkumar. "The ability to customize services to suit the structure and ideology of an organization, along with the cloud provider's past relationship with the company, are key factors influencing the choice of cloud provider."
