Frost & Sullivan: Growing Data and Gigabit Ethernet Speeds Fuel Demand for Network Monitoring Switches
Need for secured networks for businesses a key market driver
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The advent of big data and cloud services in businesses highlight the need for both technical and applied skills to monitor and analyze large samples of data. Furthermore, the criticality of maintaining secured networks and growing gigabit Ethernet speeds, are driving demand for network monitoring switches globally.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.testandmeasurement.frost.com), Global Network Monitoring Switches Market, finds that the market earned revenue of $459.6 million in 2013 and estimates this to reach approximately $3.8 billion in 2020. Future bandwidth speeds are expected to be faster, particularly in the 40 gigabit and 100 gigabit range. However, network monitoring switches to monitor 100 gig speeds are not commercially available.
"Switch vendors are focusing on building new architecture that can hold several chassis in order to handle higher gigabit Ethernet rates," said Frost & Sullivan Measurement and Instrumentation Industry Manager Sujan Sami. "Designing intelligent switches to cater to high bandwidth speeds and capture the right data for analysis is also crucial for market growth."
Another key challenge is the lack of awareness among end users on the full features and functionalities of network monitoring switches. As a result, vendors are forced to spend on regular customer training, brand recognition efforts, attending trade shows, and hosting events.
Nevertheless, the timely development and deployment of easy-to-use products will help switch suppliers to appeal to their consumer base. Vendors must also differentiate their products by offering advanced functionalities.
"Consolidation will provide added opportunities for vendors to expand product portfolio and gain market share," advised Sami. "In fact, mergers and acquisitions will be rampant in the near future in the global network monitoring switches market."
