FXFL Set To Open Training Camps Next Week
Four Teams Kickoff League's Inaugural Season On October 8th
NEW YORK, Sept.19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The FXFL, a new professional football league, which utilizes a developmental format, has announced training camp dates for the 2014 season.
The Omaha Mammoths will report on September 25th to TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska with the first practice scheduled for September 26th. The Boston Brawlers, led by Head Coach Terry Shea, will also open camp in Omaha and take part in joint practice sessions with the Mammoths. All training camp practice sessions, which are sponsored by Ortho West, are open to the public.
The Brooklyn Bolts will open their 2014 training camp in Coral Springs, Florida under the leadership of first-year Head Coach John Bock.
The League also announced that the Blacktips, which were originally scheduled to play home games at FIU Stadium in Miami, have become the league's floating franchise. The Blacktips will utilize an all-star format, which will allow the FXFL to provide more players with opportunities in its inaugural season.
FXFL Commissioner Brian Woods told ESPN's Mike and Mike show yesterday, "Right now we can't take enough players. We were concerned at first that we needed to start with fewer teams, to ensure that the quality of the on-field product and the fans would come out and support it; and that's not our problem anymore. Now our problem is we have too many qualified players."
"We kept our rosters very small, no more than 40 guys to a roster. The idea is, we sign a player to that team and that player is going to play. It's about live game repetitions. This is a developmental league so we have to develop players and keep them playing," said Woods.
"By doing this we know there's going to be some natural attrition; we're hoping that 25 to 30 percent of these guys can return to the NFL. But we want to recycle in a lot of players because right now we're looking at bringing in 160 to start the season. But there are probably three to four hundred guys that deserve an opportunity to get involved with this league this year to get current film and have an opportunity to go back to the NFL. Utilizing an all-star format for the Blacktips will allow more players to be a part of our league."
