LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Galt House Hotel, the Heart of Louisville, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012. It is the only waterfront hotel in Louisville and is Kentucky's largest hotel. Louisville visionary and developer Al J. Schneider built the 25 story RIVUE Tower in 1972 as part of Louisville's Riverfront Urban Renewal Project. The East Tower, featuring 650 Executive Suites and several apartments, was built in 1985. Today, Galt House Hotel boasts 1,290 guest rooms and 128,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, bringing more than 2,000 meetings and conventions to downtown Louisville each year.
Schneider is credited with bringing more change and improvements to the city's appearance than anyone else in recent history. That tradition continues today with Schneider's daughter, Mary Moseley. As President and CEO, Moseley has led a $70 million renovation of Galt House Hotel. Both towers received extensive renovations, and a $4 million dollar Conservatory connecting the towers over Fourth Street was added. Other improvements include skywalks built connecting the hotel to the Kentucky International Convention Center and the KFC Yum! Center. Additionally, the annual Christmas at the Galt House Hotel is bringing people back downtown during the holidays.
These renovations have enabled double occupancy growth for the hotel each year, contributed sales and tax revenue for the city and state, and have increased employment opportunities. Jim Wood, Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO said, "The Galt [House] Hotel's renovation played a critical roll in re-energizing Louisville's efforts to attract and host major citywide conventions. The City of Louisville continues to enjoy success and reap the rewards everyday due in large part to the financial investment the Galt [House] Hotel has made in its product."
Mrs. Moseley says that, "I am proud to follow in my father's footsteps and have enjoyed the challenges and commitment to grow the business and, in partnering with local and state leaders, to contribute and keep downtown Louisville vibrant."
