Gameloft and GungHo Online Entertainment, two leading digital and social game developers, today announced that they have reached a non-binding framework agreement to cooperate in the creation and distribution of high quality mobile games as well as in various areas of the digital entertainment industry.

"It is my pleasure to announce that we have entered into a strategic operational relationship with GungHo Online Entertainment - one of Japan's largest mobile game companies. GungHo is highly regarded for its expertise in mobile gaming and we are excited to join forces with such a fantastic partner which shares our vision to bring the highest level of entertainment and technology to mobile gamers around the world," states Michel Guillemot, CEO of Gameloft.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, the key benefits of the proposed cooperation would be as follows:

  • Gameloft and GungHo will cooperate to publish designated mobile games in domestic and international markets by capitalizing on both companies' expertise and worldwide presence.
  • Gameloft and GungHo will collaborate to improve and enhance the user experiences and eco-design in mutually agreed mobile titles.
  • Gameloft will publish some of its major titles on Playphone, the mobile gaming platform under the control of GungHo.
  • Gameloft and GungHo will explore potential collaboration in gaming and related business for further synergies.

The first stage of this strategic alliance kicks off with Gameloft's upcoming mobile gaming title Disney Magic Kingdoms for which GungHo has been granted exclusive distribution rights in Japan by Gameloft. GungHo has worked closely with Gameloft's development team in Toronto to create a version that will reach the renowned high expectations of Japanese players. Disney Magic Kingdoms will allow players to build the theme park of their dreams by recreating and placing iconic attractions in a fun animated landscape. With influence from the Disney Parks around the world, the game reimagines them for mobile, letting fans experience an authentic and magical experience anytime, anywhere. In Disney Magic Kingdoms, fans can also interact with characters from more than 90 years of Disney history, including Mickey Mouse, Woody, Mike Wazowski and countless others.

GungHo president and chief executive officer CEO Kazuki Morishita said: "I am very happy to announce this partnership with Gameloft, a company that has inspired the industry since the early days of mobile gaming with its high quality titles.
