Gary Lang Joins IMS Global Board of Directors
Appointment Reinforces Blackboard's Commitment to Open Standards
WASHINGTON, July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Gary Lang, senior vice president of product development, support and cloud services for Blackboard, has been appointed to the IMS Global Learning Consortium's board of directors, the company announced today.
A nonprofit collaboration of the world's leading universities, school districts, government organizations, content providers and technology suppliers, IMS Global is dedicated to advancing affordable, scalable technology that improves educational participation and success. This influential community also actively develops and supports open interoperability standards to promote collaboration among education technology platforms.
This appointment reinforces Blackboard's strong commitment to interoperability and open standards. The company's industry-leading learning environment fully supports Common Cartridge™, Basic Learning Tools Interoperability® (LTI®) and Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standards. Additionally, the Open Source Community for Educational Learning Objects and Tools (OSCELOT) grew out of Blackboard's Open Source group in 2002.
"I am very excited and humbled to join such a prestigious group and work with IMS Global to support interoperability across educational technologies," said Gary Lang, senior vice president of product development, support and cloud services for Blackboard. "Our industry needs to evolve existing standards, identify new opportunities for collaboration, and prioritize efforts to focus on where we need to go – not where we've been. I welcome the opportunity to work with others to help define the future of education and the standards that can help us get there."
