Gateway Health names Cain Hayes as president and CEO

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway Health's Board of Directors today announced Cain A. Hayes, MBA, CEBS, ChFC as its president and CEO, effective Nov. 26.

"Cain Hayes is a mission-oriented leader who throughout the last 25 years has demonstrated his ability to balance operational distinction, financial excellence and commitment to the values of an organization," said Gateway Health Board Chair Karen Hanlon. Hayes will be accountable for the day to day operations of one of the nation's top-ranked managed care organizations that serves more than 500,000 members across six states. Gateway Health's network includes over 78,000 physicians and health care providers, 475 hospitals, and more than 85,000 pharmacies and clinics nationwide.

Hayes joins Gateway Health from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota where he served as president and COO of the Health Business with full operating and financial responsibility for the health business' commercial markets, government markets, provider relations, network management, care management, clinical innovation, pharmacy, service operations, and marketing.  Prior to joining Blue Cross, he was president of National Accounts, president of the Mid-Atlantic region and president of the Government-sector and Labor division for Aetna.

Hayes was hired through a national search to replace Patti Darnley who left Gateway Health Plan in late August this year. Darnley served as president and CEO for four years and led a successful turnaround and significant growth of the company.
