GBNR 2014 Challenges The People Of Maine To Focus On The Issues, And Not The Candidate
Unbiased, Unbought and Unconventional: Lee Schultheis Launches Gubernatorial Campaign
PORTLAND, Maine, May 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- There is one question on the minds of Maine voters today that will be answered at noon: What is GBNR 2014?

Eye-catching posters have already appeared around town bearing cryptic GNBR 2014 messages. At 11:30 a.m., a small plane will be circling the downtown area towing a banner emblazoned with GBNR 2014, and at the stroke of noon, GBNR 2014's sleek 1968 black cherry Camaro "campaign bus" will rumble onto Federal St., past Monument Square and up to One City Center.
That is when Lee W. Schultheis will launch one of the most unconventional campaigns in recent memory. His mission: To become Maine's next Governor … But Not Really. Hence: GBNR 2014. "We've had a number of independent candidates with little name recognition in the last Governor's and U.S. Senate races but with little net effect at the polls," noted Schultheis. "I just want to be very upfront with the realities of such a campaign so we can focus solely on what's important: the issues."
Schultheis is no politics-as-usual candidate. His primary focus is not on winning the election. In fact, he's really not looking for your vote next November at all. Instead, he promises to wage a truly independent, "unbiased and unbought" state-wide campaign in Maine's upcoming election for Governor. Collecting 4,000 voter signatures will place Schultheis on the ballot as an Independent candidate but only a significant level of grassroots support will ensure his participation in the upcoming gubernatorial debates.
"I intend to run a full and vigorous campaign, but focus on the crucial issues that other candidates often have to be less direct or specific on in deference to their electability," said Schultheis. "I'm not looking to raise money, or secure special interest votes, or run a 'spoiler' campaign. I intend to break through today's polarized ideologies to focus the public's attention on practical, sustainable solutions to the pressing issues we face."
As part of his commitment to independence, he will run an entirely self-financed race, refusing any donor contributions or state-provided campaign funds. The only thing GBNR 2014 wants from the voters is their ideas and input.
With 25 years of experience as a successful money management executive and business owner, Schultheis promises to provide a dynamic open forum for effective, non-partisan solutions to issues including electoral reform, health care, education, tax reform, equality of opportunity, energy, and reforming the business of managing state government. Relying on an open-architecture, interactive campaign model, Schultheis' "Cherry Bomb Tour" will take him and his distinctive Camaro across Maine to harness the momentum of recent grassroots movements, from Ron Paul's campaigns to Occupy Wall Street's demonstrations. He will also reach out to those who already have innovative potential solutions to bring to the political arena that lack sponsorship in an ever more polar partisan atmosphere.
"The GBNR 2014 Campaign will ask voters to separate the message from the messenger," said Schultheis. "Only by getting voters out of today's common ideological foxholes can we push the other candidates to step out of theirs to seek the common political ground that still exists in Maine if we are to begin moving forward."
