Gemm Learning recently chose the winner of its Dyslexia Scholarship for the 2013 fall semester. The winning essay stood out among several well-written and inspirational stories, all of which were provided by students who have overcome the challenges of dyslexia.
The scholarship was initiated to support and encourage dyslexic students who have chosen to pursue a college education. "We loved the images our winner evoked through her memorable anecdotes about elementary school, and the un-noticed struggles that are associated with dyslexia. It is very evident she has met all of her challenges head on," commented Geoff Nixon, founder of Gemm Learning.
The scholarship panel hopes to see as many success stories come through this year, if not more. "These stories prove that it is possible to achieve academic success as a student with a learning difficulty."
Gemm Learning is confident that the awarded scholarships will inspire students to continue pursuing their education, despite any setbacks in the past or future. "Win or lose, all applicants should feel a tremendous sense of pride in what they have accomplished."
