NASHUA, N.H., March 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The world loves to collect. In fact, it is estimated there are over 200 million collectors worldwide who support an ever-growing market of $370 billion. With that in mind, Gemr (pronounced "jemər") has created a premium platform in which to do just that. Boasting a broad spectrum of interests and communities that span antique, vintage, contemporary and pop-culture collecting, Gemr is a site built by collectors, for collectors.
Specialized collector clubs within the site provide enthusiasts a place to discuss, share and learn about their specific category of collecting. Today, the platform relaunched with many new features, substantial improvements, and a bold new leadership team led by Tom Bennett. Bennett joined the team in August 2016 as CEO and has since been charting the company's new direction, resulting in an expanded online collecting experience that is now better, faster, and stronger than before.
"Our overall mission is to deliver an online destination that supports the entire collector's journey in one place," commented Bennett. "If you look at the tools available for collecting online, the experience is still heavily fragmented, and it's clear that a lot of sites simply don't understand collectors and collector behavior. Both the improved product direction and expanded team reflect that we are serious about solving this problem for collectors. We're not just offering a generic marketplace with a handful of social features - the site and experience are purposefully built with the collector's journey in mind. We are extremely pleased with the new site, and we are excited to unveil it to our ever-growing collector communities that span a wide range of interests."
Since the fall of 2016, the Gemr team has worked on massive performance and user interface improvements across the site. Moreover, major new features (based on user feedback) include:
- "Update" Posts – This feature allows users to create Twitter or Facebook-style updates which contain rich, visual content by allowing users to post links to collecting-related articles, videos, podcasts and more in their personal (or club) feed.
- "Curator's Corner" – This section allows club curators more freedom to create and share interesting content with club members.
- "Admired Items" Category – This category allows users to create a virtual collection as they track and share rare and interesting pieces – regardless of where they might find them on the web.
- "Make an Offer" Tool – This tool allows users to make and receive offers on the items they find on Gemr.
- The adoption of a number of leading edge, backend web technologies that ensure speed, reliability and security when interacting with the site.
Bennett understands collector culture, having worked many years in his brother's estate auction business as well as having written and produced indie comics. Add to this his years of experience in the tech industry and one could say he is the perfect leader to take Gemr to the next level. In addition to his collector-centric board of directors, which includes nationally recognized antiques dealer, author, Antiques Roadshow appraiser and long-time collector, Gary R Sullivan, he's added two new members to the leadership team. Dave Rosenlund is the new Chief Marketing Officer who boasts extensive startup experience, and long-time pop-culture pundit Chris Gore joins as Chief Evangelist. Gore is an avid pop-culture collector and acclaimed Comic-Con speaker with more than a quarter of a million followers on social media.
