Generation Success Power Series - Showcasing the UK's Asian Business Leaders
LONDON, March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
On Monday 8th February 2016 Generation Success hosted its second Power Series business event, welcoming a full house.
When you were in your late teens and early twenties what did you realistically think that you could contribute to society and make of your life? Perhaps more importantly, what did society think that you could give? The chances are, if you are from an ethnic minority background, the answer is 'not a whole lot.' You may have had sky-high aspirations; you may have been the very brightest button in the box, but without the guidance and support of an encouraging community you'd be hard-pressed to know how, or even where, to start achieving your goals.
Generation Success aims to provide all the support that young people from every background need to develop the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to thrive in the modern work place. As part of their community outreach programme, this February the enterprise hosted an evening celebrating the UK's leading Asian business people, in association with HSBC.
The event, which took place on Monday 8th February at HSBC's Canada Square offices, London, was devised to show young people that if they work hard they can achieve anything in life, regardless of their background. Hosted by Generation Success founder, James Adeleke, in celebration of Chinese New Year, a panel of prominent UK Asian business leaders were invited to provide advice, guidance and inspiration on how to climb the corporate ladder and run a successful business.
In attendance were:
- Maggie Zhao - Partner at Clifford Chance
- Ruth Lau - Strategy and Governance at HSBC
- Vanisha Naidu - COO of Back Office at BGS Partners and Cantor Fitzgerald
- Yue Lin - Executive Director at Goldman Sachs
- Steve Xing - Director at Deloitte
- Chung Qing Li - Managing Director of KREOD
As well as speaking about their own unique experiences, each panel member participated in an open-floor debate, answering the audience's questions. There was also the opportunity for direct conversation and peer-to-peer discussion, providing the 150+ strong audience with a unique chance to make new contacts, and discover the views of some of the leading industry minds.
HSBC's UK Director of Small Businesses, Richard Bearman, comments: 'The Generation Success' UK Asian Business Leaders event was a key opportunity for young British people from all backgrounds to hear from industry leaders on how they achieved success in business. Their advice was invaluable and will help give those in attendance the confidence and skills to take forward in their own careers in the future. The free event, which was filled to capacity, provided an exceptional opportunity to gain a real insider's perspective on how to get ahead in the business world."

Notes to Editors:
Generation Success was launched by successful businessman James Adeleke. A law graduate of BPP University, London, James has enjoyed a varied career in business development. He was inspired to found Generation Success following the London riots of 2011 - himself a member of what tabloid media were calling 'the lost generation', he decided it was time to start reclaiming the future for today's youth. Rather than laying blame and pointing fingers, James wanted to find ways to tackle the roots of society's problems: food poverty; deprivation; educational and employment inequality. Generation Success is James' way of helping to ensure that every young person has the chance to shine.
"I truly believe that we are limited by the boundaries of our minds," says Adeleke, "so I am always trying to expand mine - and to help others to do the same."
