CANTON, Ohio, Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- GentleBrook CEO Norm Wengerd is an inspiration to us all as he is setting out on his "Beyond the Divide" bicycle ride. The ride commences in Banff Canada and is a 2,800 mile trek following the spine of the Rockies into New Mexico, crossing the Continental Divide 32 times.
Norm, an adventure seeker and biking enthusiast, had dreamed of fulfilling this lifelong goal of cycling the Continental Divide. Aside from being a personal goal, Norm is fueled by GentleBrook's Mission Statement that all human life is a sacred gift and is most fulfilled in community with others. As CEO of an organization that services individuals with developmental disabilities, he has committed his talents to help the organization with a large fundraising objective. As a reflection of inspiring leadership, GentleBrook strives to highlight abilities over disabilities and are passionate about programs that allow different segments of the community to intersect in ways that foster understanding and mutual respect.
Norm is riding to create awareness about GentleBrook and the funds needed to upgrade their Community Complex. Their plan is to incorporate areas that embrace solitude, intergenerational activities, health and wellness along with nature trails. These enhancements will create a natural focal point in the community for a myriad of activities and events that serve both the broader community and GentleBrook's clients and residents. In addition to walking trails, they are retro-fitting an existing facility by creating an intergenerational wellness and sports center. Once completed, the walking trails and the fully furnished and equipped training center will provide a place of integration and recreation. Programming and space will be accessible to the community and will be available to youth, older adults, and persons with developmental disabilities.
Upon Norm's return in October there will be several events celebrating his grand adventure. For more information about upcoming events visit www.GentleBrook.org/beyond-divide. All event proceeds will support this campaign while continuing to connect people and community.
