Through the mentor-protege relationship, a joint venture between Geosyntec and H&S can offer federal clients the combined technical and financial resources and systems of both companies to provide top-tier services for project execution while having the ability to earn contract awards as a single small, woman-owned, 8(a) business entity.
"By choosing Geosyntec as our mentor-protege partner, we're giving ourselves the best opportunity to succeed as a strong specialty service contractor," H&S President and Owner Debi Heims said.
The SBA's mentor-protege program enhances the capability of 8(a) participants such as H&S to: 1) compete more competitively for federal government contracts and 2) build experience with the business systems that facilitate top-tier project delivery. As part of this agreement, Geosyntec will provide the H&S team with technical, administrative, and management assistance to enhance the protege firm's capabilities and assist the firm in meeting its business goals.
"This offers federal agencies another vehicle to assist in meeting their goals for 8(a) contracting while providing H&S access to the business tools and processes that can facilitate their transition to large business status," said Lisa Brandon, a principal engineer in Geosyntec's Boston office.
Based in Westborough, Massachusetts, H&S provides specialized consulting, engineering, waste management, and construction phase services. Incorporated in 2003, H&S received their SBA 8(a) small disadvantaged, woman-owned business certification in 2005. Financial stability, progressive staff development, expanding capabilities and geographic footprint, and an excellent safety record characterize H&S's nine years in business.
"This relationship will help H&S reach our goal of graduating from the 8(a) program as a financially stable, well-managed, and sustainable consultant to public and private sector clients with the ability to successfully implement larger, more complex projects," Heims said.
Geosyntec is a consulting firm with more than 900 engineers, environmental scientists, and other technical and project staff based in offices throughout the United States and at select locations in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. The firm's core practices address new ventures and complex problems involving our environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.
