GI Monitor, Leading (IBD) Crohn's and Colitis Mobile Disease Management Platform From WellApps INC., Announces Real-Time Social Networking and Foursquare Integration
UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., Aug. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- WellApps, INC. announced today the latest release of GI Monitor, the leading (IBD) Crohn's and Colitis mobile disease management platform. The new release adds the ability for users to Socialize in real-time as they track their conditions, making GI Monitor one of the largest global social destinations for (IBD) Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients. Brett Shamosh, 20-year Ulcerative Colitis patient and Co-Founder of WellApps says, "I was blown away when we released Socialize. People with IBD from every corner of the globe immediately connected around shared experiences and observations. The marriage of a mobile disease management tool to a mobile social network certainly got our wheels turning. Stay tuned…". GI Monitor is available for iOS and Android devices in English, Spanish, German, French and Italian. The platform, which is anchored by a web-app that syncs user data in real-time, currently has over 24,000 registered users.

Another feature added in GI Monitor's latest release is the ability to connect with Foursquare, the leader in location-based check-ins. Once connected, GI Monitor users can view their Foursquare check-ins through daily logs and interactive charts to make correlations between symptoms and locations. Edward Shin, MD, Co-Founder of WellApps, notes, "Health doesn't just happen in the doctor's office. Symptoms occur everywhere and both patients and physicians need to understand the impact of location. Foursquare recognizes the importance of location in consumer health and allows us to make these potential correlations in a fun and engaging way." Foursquare's Platform Evangelist, Akshay Patil, adds, "Layering health information onto real-world actions is an incredibly powerful combination. We're super excited that WellApps is empowering people to do this."
Inspired by a flare up of his Ulcerative Colitis in 2009, Brett Shamosh, a digital media executive from Bergen County, NJ, decided to use the booming smartphone app market to help fellow IBD patients get a better understanding of their conditions and communicate more effectively with physicians. Since then, he co-founded WellApps, a company devoted to the development and distribution of symptom tracking applications for patients with chronic illnesses.
GI Monitor is free to patients and is currently available in the iTunes App Store, Android Market and at www.wellapps.com
