Global Alliance for Brain and Spine Therapeutics is Broadened by Brain Mapping Foundation and North American Spine Society in the Heart of Downtown Los Angeles
World leading scientists, clinicians and industry leaders gathered at the LA Convention Center to share data, foster collaboration, form international alliance and educate the public about the latest on brain and spine therapies.
LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Four-Star Army General John M. Murray, the first commanding general of the U.S. Army Futures Command, opened the 16th Annual World Congress of Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), urged the importance of a global approach to innovation and collaboration, congratulated the SBMT organizers for their successful convention and stressed the pressing needs for the US to be on the forefront of neurotech innovation through collaboration and data sharing.

Dr. Paul Gilna, director of Biosecurity and Biomedical Initiatives at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, reviewed the lab's pioneering achievements, programs and potential strategic collaboration with SBMT to fast-track lifesaving therapeutics for patients with neurological disorders using supercomputing and AI.
The First World Brain Expo's Brain Health and Fitness panel included Drs. Deepak Chopra, the recipient of the 2019 Humanitarian Award of SBMT, Carl Cotman, Wes Ashford, the past president of SBMT, and Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel. The panel stressed the use of advanced technologies such as AI to better understand human brain and formulate future therapies for neurological, spinal and psychiatric disorders.

Top scientists from federal laboratories such as NASA, National Labs, Department of Veterans Affairs, DoD and Uniform Services University Health Sciences (USUHS) presented their latest discoveries in neurotrauma including a new finding by Dr. Daniel Perl, a recipient of the 2019 Pioneer in Medicine Award of SBMT.
