Global Health Connections Hosts Haitian Health Authorities During Denver-Based Conference
DENVER, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Haitian health ministry and World Bank representatives are among the international list of panelists planned for the September 25, 2010 Global Health Connections Conference 2010 in Denver, Colorado.
Sponsored by Colorado non-profit Global Health Connections (GHC), the conference aims to raise awareness of current global health topics, including the need to address Haiti's health care infrastructure following the January 2010 earthquake.
GHC board of directors' chairman, Dr. Blair Gifford sees the event as an opportunity to involve multiple stakeholders and advocates around pressing global health issues, primarily the need to rebuild Haiti's health care infrastructure.
"We are especially excited about the special Haiti track. Numerous key health and development leaders in Haiti will be at the conference to discuss current ideas on how to move things forward," states Gifford.
According to Gifford hundreds of Coloradans are currently working independently, through their schools, places of worship, and other organizations to improve health worldwide. The conference gives these individuals an opportunity to collaborate with other private citizens committed to the conference's four primary topics: Colorado-led global health service projects; local university activism; sustainability; and Colorado in Haiti.
In addition to the Haiti-focused topics, conference organizers partnered with Renewal4Haiti, to host a fundraising event the evening of September 25. Event proceeds will be directed toward the construction of a hospital in Leogane, Haiti.
"Whether you stay through the evening or just attend a few break-out sessions in the morning, we hope that the conference inspires our local community to take action and become part of the solution in global health inequities. And having traveled to Haiti earlier this year, I am very excited to provide our community an opportunity to learn first-hand about Haiti and contribute to the redevelopment of Haiti," adds GHC executive director Carrie Paykoc.
The conference, which is accepting public registrations, will be hosted on the Auraria Higher Education Campus in downtown Denver. Details are available online at http://globalhealthconnections.org.
