Introduction
The economy of intellectual property (IP) is in the process of a far reaching change and the introduction of a system of IP fund, IP investment fund, patent funds or patent value fund in various IP conscious countries has been a recent development. Such a development is to facilitate and enhance IP activities. The same would help to support the IP market, promote the use of intellectual property and encourage IP transactions and transfers. Taiwan
In April 2011, the Ministry of the Economy announced plans to launch a national IP strategy program in order to support Taiwanese companies in their IP transactions. The Taiwanese IP bank is to comprise of an IP management company and an IP fund company. The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a non-profit R&D organization engaged in applied research and technical services (founded in 1973), is to play a vital role in the setting up of the system of an IP bank in Taiwan. In the first six months, ITRI would establish a wholly owned IP management company, Industrial Technology Investment Corporation with the deployment of US$ million. Post six months, an IP fund company is to be brought into existence with the financial aid of both state and private players in the market.

The IP bank would be a publicly held but privately led organization. The technology areas to be concentrated upon for the utilization of this bank include smartphones, light emitting diodes (LEDs), biotechnology and environmental technology. Accordingly, the private players expected to contribute towards this fund consist of Asus, HTC, Acer and such other companies of repute in Taiwan.
