SAO PAULO, Sept. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Sources (NASDAQ: GSOL) today announced the opening of the second annual China Sourcing Fairs in Brazil. The four co-located shows covering products of electronics, gifts and premiums, garments and textiles, and hardware and building materials, are running through Sept. 10 at the Imigrantes Exhibition Center in Sao Paulo.

"With this second show, we are greatly expanding the product choice for Latin American buyers and firmly rooting the Fairs as the preeminent show for sourcing quality products directly from Asia and Greater China suppliers," said Tommy Wong, President of Global Sources Exhibitions. "Our aim is to change the B2B landscape here by providing an efficient sourcing and marketing platform for buyers and exhibitors alike so they can fully benefit from the booming Brazilian and South American market. This kind of trade show has not been offered before in Brazil on this scale."

Well received by provincial and municipal governments in mainland China since its inaugural event, this year's shows feature pavilions from Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Zhongshan, Shantou, Chaozhou, Wujiang, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products and Hong Kong Exporters' Association. Combined, these different areas provide the Fairs' attendees a much larger selection of products and manufacturers from China's leading supply markets.

In addition, the Brazil-China Chamber (CCIBC) is helping to arrange buyer/exhibitor meetings through Private Sourcing Events. The Chamber is also providing on-site consultation to exhibitors who want to know more about the Brazilian market and its importance as an alternative source of buyers during the current period of slower global economic growth.

China-Brazil trade exceeded US$40 billion in the first half of 2013, a 9 percent year-on-year increase. "Growth in Brazil, already one of the fastest growing emerging economies in the world, is set to be propelled further by the upcoming World Cup in 2014 and Olympic Games in 2016," added Wong. "The China Sourcing Fairs will allow buyers and exhibitors to fully profit from this immense opportunity."

Geraldo Alckmin, Governor of Sao Paulo, acknowledged Global Sources for its contribution to facilitate closer trade ties between Brazil, China and other key manufacturing bases in Asia. Officially opening the events today were:

  • Hu Ying, Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Sao Paulo
