Premises-based Communications Platforms Market Key Findings
Premises-based Communications Platforms Market
The premises-based telephony market is undergoing a transformation around consumption models. Many vendors are reporting a decrease in IP line license shipments primarily due to a transition from a transactional model, based on perpetual license sales, to a subscription-based model that includes infrastructure, applications, and client licenses. This is helping vendors capture new revenue sources in the premises market, while enabling customers to future-proof their communications and collaboration investments.
- In 2015, premises-based systems IP line licenses and revenues continued to decrease for other reasons, too. This trend will hold in 2016 as many businesses delay investments in new technology due to challenging economic conditions, the perceived limited value of advanced solutions, and greater caution as the industry transforms and new technologies and business models emerge.
- Business customers are moving to new communications platforms only if their legacy system is so costly to maintain that they can justify a new investment in communications infrastructure, and/or if they have a specific need, such as centralization (easier management of the systems); mobility; UC features (e.g., conferencing, presence, collaboration); and new contact center capabilities.
- Some businesses are either seriously considering the move to hosted/cloud communications or have already migrated their telephony solutions to the cloud. This factor will have a growing impact on premises-based system sales in 2016 and beyond.
