DUBLIN, September 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Research and Markets has announced the addition of the "Global Urinary Catheters Market 2016-2020" report to their offering.
The report forecasts the global urinary catheters market to grow at a CAGR of 5.21% during the period 2016-2020.
One of the key trends for market growth will be preferences for male external catheters among active athletes. Active athletes with urinary incontinence opt male external catheters over other types of urinary catheters. These catheters are non-invasive and reduce the risks of infections such as CAUTIs. For many men, external catheters are a great alternative to more invasive catheters, such as indwelling catheters that require insertion through the urethra. In the US, male athletes with urinary incontinence prefer Coloplast's Freedom Cath male external catheter, a one-piece self-adhering latex device with a wide and watertight adhesive seal, to manage urinary incontinence. The catheter has an anti-kink reservoir that prevents the backflow of urine. Male external catheters have the advantage of diverting the urine to a bag, which decreases urine odor and protects the skin from contact with urine.
According to the report, use of home-based urinary catheters will be a key driver for market growth. Modern medicine and improvement in healthcare services have helped improve patient outcome and reduce related expenditure by allowing many people with chronic diseases to receive home-based medical care. In 2015, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice in the US estimated that 7.6 million individuals were receiving homecare from about 17,000 paid providers. Among these individuals, many people were aged 60 and above. The rise in this age group will lead to the demand for home healthcare devices due to the devices feasibility in care. Many people opted for home care-based treatment over hospital care and this number is going to increase overtime. This paradigm shift has helped people take an active role in managing their diseases. They are able to opt for devices that allow better treatment of diseases in the comfort of their homes. These devices are easily available online and are comfortable and easy to use. This shift led to the development of portable urinary catheters.
Further, the report states that product recalls will be a challenge for the market.
