BOSTON, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Globalization Partners, a Global Expansion Platform renowned for its Global Employer of Record that helps companies quickly expand into more than 150 countries without the hassle of setting up overseas branch offices, today announces it has received certification from the United States government under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks. Privacy Shield certification is crucial for United States-based companies doing business in the European Economic Area (EEA), and absolutely necessary to protect clients in operating around the globe.

EEA member nations recognize companies with Privacy Shield certification as being able to provide "adequate" data privacy protection, a requirement for the transfer of personal data outside of the EEA under the Data Protection Directives currently in place. The certification is part of Globalization Partners' compliance initiatives under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), an extreme tightening of the laws related to data privacy in the EU and beyond.

• All Member States of the European Union are bound by the European Commission's finding of "adequacy," and Switzerland is bound by the Swiss Government's finding of "adequacy;"
• Participating organizations are deemed to provide "adequate" privacy protection, a requirement (subject to limited derogations) for the transfer of personal data outside of the European Union under the EU Data Protection Directive and outside of Switzerland under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection;
• EU Member State requirements for prior approval of data transfers either are waived or approval will be automatically granted; and
• Compliance requirements are clearly laid out and cost-effective, which should particularly benefit small and medium-sized enterprises.

The EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Frameworks were designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the European Commission and Swiss Administration, respectively, to provide companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States in support of transatlantic commerce.
