ATLANTA, May 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GOGO Charters, the national motor coach reservation service, today announced its first annual scholarship, GOGO Charters National Scholarship for Immigrants and Refugees. The $10,000 award is designed to recognize an immigrant or refugee who demonstrates academic success and can articulate a dream for his or her future.
"As a child, I witnessed a civil war tear apart Albania and the impact it had on families around me," said Armir Harris, CEO and founder of Shofur, the parent company of GOGO Charters. "When I was a teenager, my mother, sister and I immigrated to the United States to build a better life. Through hard work and the support of the community, I've built a growing technology company that contributes to the economy and challenges me every day. With this scholarship, I hope that others can feel the support of the country and make their own dreams a reality."
The scholarship will award one student $10,000 for the 2017-18 school year to be used for tuition and fees at any accredited public, private, or community college or university across the country. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Born outside the United States.
- Complete their senior year of high school with a 3.4 GPA or greater in 2017.
- Plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college/university as a full-time student in 2017.
- Submit a short essay explaining how the scholarship would help the applicant achieve near-term goals (accepted essay formats include video, audio or written).
