Goodwill Buys New Downtown Building To Provide More Services To Unemployed Baltimore City Residents
Local Workforce Development Agency looks to expand impact of programs
BALTIMORE, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, has recently purchased a new building in downtown Baltimore in an effort to expand the number and quality of services it provides to unemployed and underemployed Baltimore City residents. The new building is located at 32 South Street.
Goodwill Headquarters will remain at 222 East Redwood Street. The new building is less than a block away and will allow Goodwill to expand its program offerings, and provide much need job training and placement services to those with barriers to employment including physical disabilities, those dependent on government assistance and those recently released from the prison system.
"This was an ideal opportunity for Goodwill since real estate in the heart of downtown is difficult to obtain," said Lisa Rusyniak, Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake President & CEO. "The buildings' close proximity to our headquarters enables our program participants to access our full continuum of services, which are typically successive and interdependent, in an easily accessible, central location. We are thrilled with the ability to now expand our program reach."
Completely renovated in 1999, 32 South Street in Baltimore is a 5 story, 32,000-square-foot building at the northwest corner of Water and South streets with underground parking, two blocks from Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The building contains 97 offices, conference rooms and classrooms. The location is easily accessible from public transportation and from I-83 and I-395.
