AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Google announced they are fully funding the classroom requests of every area teacher on the education crowdfunding site DonorsChoose.org. As a result of Google's $87,803.58 donation, 117 Austin area teachers will receive materials for their 9,914 students, ranging from paper, pencils and books to laptops, musical instruments and microscopes.
"We are thrilled to partner with DonorsChoose.org to support all of the classroom projects of teachers here in the Austin area. We owe a lot to our teachers and want to thank them for being a constant source of inspiration," said Gerardo Interiano, Public Affairs Manager at Google.
On DonorsChoose.org, teachers post projects requesting materials they need for their classrooms, and donors support the projects that inspire them. Among the projects funded this morning were alphabet and number dough cards at Dawson Elementary School and a document camera for class presentations at Palm Elementary School.
"We are so humbled and grateful to Google for their devotion to our teachers and students," said Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. "This is a great day for Austin area classrooms."
On Tuesday morning, 133 projects were funded in Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell and Hays counties. Google posted a message on every funded project, letting teachers know they were part of the surprise.
Over the past few months, Google has announced similar "flash funding" campaigns in San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
In addition to their project funding initiatives, Google has also supported several DonorsChoose.org programs over the years, including the AP STEM Access program, which launched over 500 new AP STEM courses at high poverty schools nationwide.

All told, 12 million students—most from low-income communities, and many in disaster-stricken areas—have received books, art supplies, field trips, technology, and other resources that they need to learn.
