Governor Charlie Crist Reappoints James G. Schwade, MD to Florida Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council

MIAMI, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Charlie Crist reappointed James G. Schwade, MD, to a second term, for a 5th year of service, on the Florida Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council.

As the Executive Director of the CyberKnife Center of Miami, which began operations in late 2003, Schwade initiated the first CyberKnife location in the Southeastern U.S. (www.cyberknifemiami.com) and the 10th in the nation.

Dr. Schwade is an internationally recognized radiation oncologist with more than 30 years of practice experience in Miami.  He holds the ranks of Clinical Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, where he was the first Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology(1987-94). He also holds appointments as Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University.  He is currently Executive Director of the CyberKnife Center of Miami and the CyberKnife Center of Palm Beach.  

He has had extensive experience in the formulation, review and conduct of clinical trials at the NCI, University of Miami School of Medicine, and in private practice.

A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis (AB, cum laude, 1969) and the Medical College of Wisconsin (MD 1973), he served his internship and residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (1973-77) before joining the staff of the National Cancer Institute(1977-1981), where he headed the Radiation Biology Section of the Radiation Oncology Branch.  

The Cancer Control and Research Advisory Council (also known as CCRAB because initially it was a "Board" instead of a "Council") was created by the Florida Legislature in 1979, Chapter 1004.435. Florida Statutes.
