Governor Corbett Nominates Dr. Carrie DeLone as Physician General

HARRISBURG, Pa., May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today nominated Dr. Carrie DeLone as the state's Physician General in the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

DeLone, 55, Camp Hill, will advise the governor and the secretary of health on all medical and public health-related issues. She will be responsible for reviewing professional standards and practices in medicine and public health, as well as overseeing the department's disease prevention and control efforts.

"Dr. DeLone is a well-respected physician advisor with more than 20 years of clinical experience,'' Corbett said. "I am confident in her abilities and knowledge to provide invaluable public health counsel."

DeLone presently serves as a physician advisor at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Cumberland County, where she is the liaison between hospital administrators and physicians.

Dr. DeLone is a board certified general internist and holds a bachelor's degree from Villanova University, a master's degree from Georgetown University and a medical degree from Temple University.

The position of Physician General was created in 1996 under Act 87. The Physician General also serves as a voting member of the State Board of Medicine and the State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.

The position requires confirmation by the Pennsylvania Senate.
