Governor Declares September 'Get Your Well On' Month
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has issued a proclamation declaring September 2010 as "Get Your Well On" month, and asking that all families Get Your Well On by making an appointment with their primary doctor this month.
The "Get Your Well On" campaign is an effort through Ohio's Health Care Home, a single site helping Ohioans with the resources they need to get and stay well. Ohio's seven Medicaid Care Coordination Plans have come together under Ohio's Health Care Home to match recipients with social services, home health assistance and transportation to doctor appointments.
A primary focus of the Health Care Home is wellness and prevention. "Get Your Well On" is a statewide effort to encourage healthy behaviors and visits to a primary care doctor.
At the center of the "Get Your Well On" Campaign are six consumer cards. Each card addresses a core component of a healthy lifestyle:
- The "Eat Well" card encourages responsible eating patterns.
- The "Move Well" card emphasizes daily physical activity.
- The "Visit Well" card promotes regular check-ups.
- The "Sleep Well" card highlights the rest adults and children need.
- The "Unwind Well" card helps deal with daily stress.
- The "Age Well" card offers ideas to stay younger in mind, body and spirit.
For younger children, the "Get Your Well On" Campaign developed a coloring book called "My Doctor Cares for Me." It's a fun way to let kids know it's good to visit a doctor. It also has information parents can use to better use the health care system for their whole family.
The coloring book and cards both refer to the Health Care Home's new website, www.ohiohealthcarehome.org. Interested groups or individuals can order copies of the cards and coloring book through the site for no charge.
The new site design also features search options to find Medicaid health plans, and local community resources like county offices of the Department of Job and Family Services and social service agencies.
"Early screening and detection are critical in receiving better, more affordable care," said Kelly McGivern, President and CEO of the Ohio Association of Health Plans. "The Health Care Home's 'Get Your Well On' campaign will guide families who are searching for those resources."
Ohio's Medicaid Care Coordination Plans provide care for 1.5 million Ohioans, including 40% of Ohio's children.
