Grants Go A Long Way When It Comes To Addiction Treatment
Runwell: The Linda Quirk Foundation Awards 10 Grants to Addiction Treatment Centers Worldwide
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In its second year as a non-profit organization, Runwell: The Linda Quirk Foundation awarded 10 grants to addiction treatment programs in the U.S. and abroad. Runwell's grant program supports accredited treatment centers and programs around the world with funding for existing scholarship programs and family education. The foundation's goal is to provide hope to individuals and their families as they work to overcome the devastating effects of addiction and mental illness, as well as to promote health and wellness and the promise of recovery.
"Thanks to the generous and dedicated support of our donors, partners and athletes, we were able to support these centers with much needed funding," said Quirk, who has completed marathons and ultra-running events around the world in support of addiction treatment efforts. "These funds go directly toward providing access to quality addiction treatment programs, while supporting families in need all around the world. We look forward to seeing our grant dollars put to use and call on the world to investigate how they can support Runwell in 2014."
How Runwell Works
Athletes who wish to represent Runwell do so by registering for a race on Runwell's website. Fundraising goals vary by event, and athletes typically seek sponsorship donations from friends and family as they train for their races. Runwell offers support including: personalized online donation pages, virtual coaching from former U.S. Olympic runner Keith Brantly, and nutritional advice and planning from U.S. Olympic Sports Dietitian Bob Seebohar.
During 2013, Runwell partnered with more than a dozen organized running events, from local 5Ks to ultra-marathons (including the ING New York City Marathon and Racing the Planet's 4 Desert series). Quirk said 2014 will see an expansion of the number of events that Runwell will be affiliated, including many Partner Events, as well as a new "Choose Your Own Event" option.
