Nikos Chountis, Member of the European Parliament from the Popular Unity Party of Greece, former alternate Foreign Minister responsible for European affairs, announced today the launch of an initiative with the aim to coordinate the left and other democratic political forces and movements in the European and other European parliaments, as well as international personalities, against the revival of Neo-Fascism, Neo-Nazism and racial discrimination in Europe.
He stated that Europe must take serious steps to protect the young generation, especially in the crisis environment, from the negative influence of Neo-Fascism and Neo-Nazism and racial intolerance, to protect national minority groups, refugees and all people from the threat of violence and attacks from Neo-Fascist and radical nationalist gangs being active all around Europe, especially in Eastern Europe and particularly in Ukraine.
Nikos Chountis will also coordinate certain activities of the Greek authorities, political parties and other democratic forces in Europe to take care regarding negative tendencies in Ukraine affecting the Greek community there. He announced an idea of arranging for a parliamentary delegation to visit Odessa and other areas in the near future to meet representatives of the Greek minority there and discuss their situation in an open dialogue which will also include local authorities.
