SEATTLE, July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Builder magazine won two 2013 journalism awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors.

The Green Builder magazine team, led by Editor-in-Chief Matt Power, brought home a Silver Award for "Best Residential Trade Magazine." "The magazine uses a contemporary, creative design to lure readers into the stories," the judges noted. "The topics of the stories are as modern as tomorrow." Sharing credit for the award are Mary Kestner, production manager, and Phil Cottrell, graphic designer.

Editor-in-Chief Matt Power received a Silver Award for Best Trade Magazine Report on Residential Real Estate, Mortgage/Finance, or Home Building/Residential Development Industries for his article "The Secrets of Soil." Noted the judges: "This intriguing report examined an element in the building environment that few people consider: the makeup of soil and how important it is to find good building sites and carefully selecting areas for lawns and gardens. Soil is an often overlooked component in evaluating the value of a property, and the writer is to be congratulated on looking at this topic."

Matt Power, a former winner of NAREE's prestigious Best Collection of Work by an Individual Award is proud of the stake his magazine has stuck in the ground:  "We often tackle topics that are a little outside what used to be the comfort level of professionals--conservation, resource reduction and so on. It's great to see that not only our readers are shifting toward greener, more thoughtful ways of living and working--but our peers in the publishing industry are, too."
