SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenliant Systems, a leader in energy-efficient, highly secure and reliable solid state storage products, is now sampling its e.MMC NANDrive™ GLS85VM embedded solid state drive (SSD) product family to select customers. The new NANDrive devices support the JEDEC e.MMC 4.4 standard and are backward compatible with 4.3. While the JEDEC operating temperature range specification is -25 to +85 degrees Celsius, e.MMC NANDrive operates at full industrial temperatures between -40 and +85 degrees Celsius, giving customers data storage that can withstand the most severe conditions.
e.MMC NANDrive combines Greenliant's internally developed NAND controller with NAND flash die for a fully integrated SSD in a multi-chip package. It is available with 2-bits-per-cell (MLC) or 1-bit-per-cell (SLC) NAND to meet varying customer requirements for lifespan, endurance and performance. Measuring 14mm x 18mm, e.MMC NANDrive is offered in a 100 ball grid array (BGA) package, with 1mm ball pitch for increased long-term reliability.
"Building on our popular SATA and PATA NANDrive product lines, the addition of e.MMC enables Greenliant to fully address our customers' small form-factor embedded storage needs," said Arthur Kroyan, vice president of business development and marketing, Greenliant Systems. "There's a gap in current e.MMC offerings for applications requiring high reliability SSDs, such as automotive, industrial and networking. e.MMC NANDrive fills this gap with its industrial temperature range, and advanced data integrity and security features."
"In recent years, the e.MMC market has experienced explosive growth due to increasing adoption in consumer devices such as smartphones and tablets," said Gregory Wong, principal analyst, Forward Insights. "Greenliant's announcement signals e.MMC's first foray into the non-consumer space with e.MMC NANDrive offering a unique product proposition specifically tailored towards applications such as in-vehicle infotainment, routers and switches, and single-board computers."
Greenliant is currently sampling 8, 16 and 32 GByte GLS85VM e.MMC NANDrive devices with customers on select product engagements. For more information about the Greenliant NANDrive product portfolio, visit www.NANDrive.com and contact a Greenliant authorized distributor or sales representative.
About NANDrive™ Products
NANDrive manages all NAND flash complexities and allows embedded system designers to quickly integrate mass data storage solutions into their designs without having to make any firmware changes. Because NANDrive complies with ATA and e.MMC interface protocols supported by all standard embedded operating systems, designers no longer face costly, time-consuming host software revalidation cycles. To further ease system integration and simplify inventory management, NANDrive solves the compatibility and obsolescence issues of pairing a NAND controller with new NAND flash devices. As an integrated multi-chip package solution, NANDrive eliminates the need for long qualification cycles when there is a change of NAND flash technology; customers need only qualify the NANDrive as a mass storage subsystem.
