Grocery Loaders Stage Strike Against Unfair Labor Practices
Members of Teamster Local 863 Stage a One-Day ULP Strike
WOODBRIDGE, N.J., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Truck loaders at Grocery Haulers, Inc., represented by Teamsters Local Union 863, staged a one-day unfair labor practice strike today to protest the company's refusal to negotiate a contract. Local 863 filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the company for failure to bargain with the union.
"We have gone without a contract for 10 long months," said Alphonse Rispoli, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 863. "These dedicated workers deserve a fair and just contract and we are not getting any answers from the company."
More than 200 hundred members of Local 863 also staged a protest in front of A&P headquarters in Montvale to show their support for the loaders. A&P contracts with Grocery Haulers, Inc. for delivery services from C&S Wholesale Grocers warehouses. The strike disrupted service to A&P stores from the C&S Wholesale Grocers warehouse facility in Woodbridge.
"This is just the beginning," Rispoli said. "A&P must be held accountable for their employees, customers and the contractors they use to warehouse and deliver products to their stores."
The Teamsters represent thousands of workers in the grocery and warehousing industries in New Jersey.
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
