Grupo Aeromexico Reported a Ten Percent Year-on-Year Increase in January Passenger Numbers

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B de C.V. ("Aeromexico") (BMV: AEROMEX), the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports operating statistics for January, 2012.

In January, Grupo Aeromexico transported one million 202 thousand passengers; the highest number for the month of January in the Company's history. This represents a 10% year-on-year increase as compared to January of 2011, resulting from a 22% increase in international passenger traffic and a 6% increase in domestic passenger traffic.

Grupo Aeromexico's capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), registered a 7% year-on-year increase in January, and demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs), grew 11%. As a result, the load factor for the month increased 2 percentage points, to reach a total of 77.1%.

According to the latest report published by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil – Mexico's National Aviation Authority), by the end of December, Grupo Aeromexico controlled 40.2% of the domestic market and 14% of the international market for 2011; confirming Grupo Aeromexico's leadership position within both markets.

DGAC's market share data is based on its Air Carrier Operational Statistics reports, which are published within one-month of Grupo Aeromexico's operational statistics.

  • "Load Factor" equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered. It is a measure of the airline's capacity utilization. This metric takes into account the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.
  • "Passengers" refers to the total number of passengers transported by the airline.
