Grupo Aeromexico Reports Three Percent Year-on-Year Increase in April Passenger Numbers

MEXICO CITY, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B de C.V. ("Aeromexico") (BMV: AEROMEX), the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports operating statistics for April, 2012.

Grupo Aeromexico transported one million 156 thousand passengers in April; a 3% year-on-year increase compared to April 2011, resulting from an 8% increase in international passenger traffic and a 2% increase in domestic passenger traffic. The total number of passengers reached four million 715 thousand in the first four months of 2012; an 8% year-on-year increase, with a 14% increase in international passenger traffic and 7% increase in domestic passenger traffic.

Grupo Aeromexico's demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK's), increased 3% year-on-year in April, and capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK's), grew 4%. As a result, the load factor for the month was 77%.

The Company's ASKs increased 6% and RPKs increased 8% in the first four months of the year. Therefore, the load factor increased 0.9 percentage points reaching 76.9%.

According to the latest report published by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil – Mexico's National Aviation Authority), in March, Grupo Aeromexico controlled 41% of the domestic market and 11% of the international market for 2012. In the first quarter of the year, Grupo Aeromexico claimed 25% of the overall market share, with 41% of the domestic market and 12% of the international market.

  • "Load Factor" equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered. It is a measure of the airline's capacity utilization. This metric takes into account the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.
  • "Passengers" refers to the total number of passengers transported by the airline.
