Gumstix Launches the DuoVero™ Crystal COM to Support Development of Advanced Multimedia-Rich Mobile Devices
Computer-on-module based on the smart multicore OMAP4430 processor from Texas Instruments
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Gumstix, Inc., the premier provider of tiny computers-on-module (COM) and expansion boards for electronic devices, today introduced the DuoVero™ Crystal COM, the first in its new series of modules based on the OMAP4430 processor from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI). This next-generation COM, powered by TI's smart multicore processor, gives electronic designers the same core technology that powers today's advanced smartphones, tablets and other multimedia-rich mobile devices.
"Gumstix developed the DuoVero series of COM to accelerate all embedded designers' ability to bring advanced products to market quickly," said W. Gordon Kruberg, M.D., President and CEO of Gumstix. "Our product line gives users advanced hardware at an affordable cost, with free and open source software, and an international community that has demonstrated the ability to bring advanced products to market rapidly and easily."
The DuoVero Crystal COM provides dual core, dual camera, and dual video output in the same size footprint, and at the same price, as the Overo® WaterSTORM COM; it includes 1 GB of RAM and a dual-core ARM® Cortex-A9 with symmetric multiprocessing running at 1GHz, for $169. It also includes an integrated POWERVR™ SGX540 graphics accelerator capable of driving complex videos as advanced as 3D gaming and 3D user interfaces. With the DuoVero Crystal COM, embedded designers can produce full HD 1080p with faster, higher quality image and video capture with digital SLR-like imaging up to 20 megapixels.
"Our OMAP4430 processor enables unmatched, highly responsive user experiences, as evident in the strong feature set on Gumstix's DuoVero COM," said Mike Schoonover, industrial business development manager, OMAP™ platform business unit, TI. "We're proud to work with a company that understands the importance of advanced mobile technologies, and encourages designers to leverage each and every unique capability of the OMAP 4 platform."
In addition to the DuoVero™ Crystal COM at $169, Gumstix is announcing the DuoVero Parlor Expansion Board ($59) as a development set-top box kit, and the DuoVero Chateau Breakout Board ($69) for general engineering. All three products can be purchased directly from Gumstix website.
