Hamilton Lane Expands Real Estate Sector Platform

PHILADELPHIA, March 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton Lane, an independent financial institution that provides discretionary and non-discretionary private equity asset management services to sophisticated investors, today announced that it is expanding its offering in the real estate sector, with the addition of Jerome W. Gates as Managing Director to lead the product area.

Gates joins the firm with over 20 years of experience in real estate portfolio management and investment banking and will be responsible for helping the firm bring its clients additional high-value opportunities in the real estate market.  This includes identifying the best managers with a strong track record in real estate, constructing selective and customized investment portfolios, establishing joint ventures with operators targeting unique opportunities and managing high-end reporting and monitoring, which has become the hallmark of the Hamilton Lane platform.

Before joining Hamilton Lane, Gates was most recently at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, where he was a Managing Director in Alternative Investments and Head of Global Real Estate Investments, delivering commercial real estate products to institutional and high net worth clients.  He also worked at Citigroup for more than 30 years, most recently as Managing Director of Global Wealth Management, leading the Global Real Estate Investments business. In the last five years at Citi, he raised over $1 billion in client capital for investment strategies that were predominantly focused on emerging markets.
