Arriving early on Sunday the swisscross.help humanitarian assistance convoy and team will deploy in and around the Izmir region to bring urgently needed humanitarian aid including food, basic infrastructure such as refrigerators and cooking stoves, and medical supplies. Of the approximately 200 families across 10 camps, 70% are women and young children.
All are refugees who fled Syria as the war continues despite a recent ceasefire negotiated by the United States, Russia, Turkey and the United Nations, with the cooperation of the Syrian Government, the Syrian Democratic Forces, YPG, PKK, PYD, and excluding ISIS and, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly known as al Nusra Front.
Speaking to press in Turkish city of Izmir, swisscross.help CEO Michael Räber said: "This swisscross.help mission is focused on delivering basic necessities to people who have fled catastrophic war and conflict often after witnessing their own friends, neighbors, and family murdered, beheaded, or kidnapped into slavery by ISIS."
"As important as distributing basic aid is to sit down with them and express compassion for their difficult situation as they all had good lives before they fled Syria. To socialize and to make these people more happy is a paramount goal because it is improving their dignity. We share our friendship with them," he added.
Jayme Illien, Founder and Executive Chairman of UNIDOHappiness commented that "As United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki moon has noted previously, all human beings have a human right to happiness as per UN resolutions 65/309 and 66/281, and the UN Charter. swisscross.help and Michael Räber are leading the way in emergency humanitarian relief so those who have left everything behind under threat of death in a violent civil war and the largest mass migration since world war 2 may satisfy basic survival needs, stabilize, and one day pursue their right to happiness."
Jayme Illien serves as UN advisor and security expert on disarmament including nuclear, chemical, biological, and conventional weapons, and counterterrorism.
