Happy Next Year, Chicago Cubs Fans!
Fans of the baseball team are now selling t-shirts for charity that proclaim, "This Year IS Next Year."
CHICAGO and ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The opening day date may say April, but as far as some Chicago Cubs fans are concerned, This Year IS Next Year. Year after year, many a weary Cubs fan has walked away from Wrigley Field muttering, "Well, wait till next year."
But after a World Series drought lasting more than a hundred years, a husband-wife team came up with a slogan they hope will become the battle cry for the 2016 season "This Year IS Next Year ™." (http://ThisYearISnextYear.com)
"There's no more waiting till next year," said Cubs fan and t-shirt designer Karen Carlson. "As far as we're concerned, we are making this THE year. Since this is Opening Day, let us all say 'Happy Next Year' to Cubs fans!"
She and her friends have been wearing the shirt around other Cubs fans, including at Spring Training in Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona, and have been receiving rave reviews for the shirt. "But while Cubs fans smile when they see the shirt and wonder where they can get it, fans of other teams just stare at it quizzically. The obviously just don't get it!" she joked.
A portion of all sales will go to charity. "We have charities in several parts of the country, including Chicago, Seattle and Southern California," said Carlson, an Emmy-Award winning journalist and recognized philanthropist.
"We just hope #ThisYearISNextYear becomes the new hashtag on social media and Cubs fans everywhere can embrace a new slogan for what is sure to be an amazing season!"
