WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hard Rock Hotel & Casino New England thanks all of the people who have lent support to the proposed development plan in West Springfield, Massachusetts over the past eight months. The citywide vote, held today, allowed residents to vote "yes" or "no" to a casino in West Springfield.
"The people of West Springfield, a great family community with rich values and strong traditions, have made a decision at the polls, " said Tim Maland, president of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino New England. "While their decision means the Hard Rock New England project will not go forward in West Springfield, we respect their decision and thank them for welcoming us into their community for the past eight months."
Announced in January, Hard Rock International unveiled an $800 million dollar entertainment destination, to be located at the campus of the Eastern States Exposition. The proposed casino promised to bring 3,500 full-time jobs and $35 million in road improvement.
Although the project will not take place in West Springfield, Hard Rock recognizes the significant offerings Massachusetts has for the brand and will continue to evaluate opportunities in the region.
Hard Rock is disappointed for the volunteers, but is beyond thankful for all of the West Side YES! members, elected officials, unions and citizens of West Springfield who have spent unlimited hours learning about this project, and then pouring their hearts and time into this campaign.
