LOS ANGELES, May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Harold Robinson Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3, which provides unity and community to inner-city kids through a life-changing camp experience, announced its 5th annual Pedal on the Pier fundraiser to be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015. The Santa Monica Pier will transform into a high-energy outdoor cycling studio, where renowned Los Angeles spin instructors from Cycle House will guide teams of riders for the day; all with a mission to raise money to send over 25 different Los Angeles inner-city schools and kids in the foster care system to camp on an all-expense paid retreat.
The event will open at 9:30am. The 100-mile ride overlooking the Pacific Ocean begins at 11am. The day will also feature DJs, live performances, celebrity guests, athletes, food and drinks. The Harold Robinson Foundation's flagship program, Camp Ubuntu, provides Los Angeles' underprivileged children with a unique opportunity to attend an ACA accredited, overnight camp in the woods, just 90 minutes outside of Los Angeles. Most of these kids have never even left their neighborhoods and Camp Ubuntu gives them a safe, fun and nurturing environment to grow in a positive way.
"Participating in Pedal on the Pier is a way to give back to the most underserved children and families in our city and to help break the vicious cycle of gangs and drugs that they often face on a daily basis," said Jeff Robinson, co-founder, Harold Robinson Foundation. "We are expecting over 1,500 attendees who have pledged to raise funds to help give these kids a life changing experience, one many of us often take for granted."
The unique camp program includes developmental group projects designed to help kids build character, strengthen confidence, develop teamwork skills and forge enduring friendships. The lessons and experiences the children learn at Camp Ubuntu will enrich their lives and provide the necessary skills needed to better themselves at home, across their communities and throughout life.
In addition to the overnight camp retreats, the Harold Robinson Foundation also runs Camp Ubuntu Watts, the first ever summer day camp, in the heart of the Watts Projects. They also provide parenting workshops, free of charge, in all of the schools they serve.
Sponsors of the 5th annual Pedal on the Pier include: Caliwater, Cycle House, Instabrand, Wells Fargo, Muscle Milk, Wahoo's Fish Tacos, Waiakea Water, Delicious Vinyl, Bead Relief, among others. This year's teams of riders have already raised more than $600,000, with a goal of exceeding $750,000.

About The Harold Robinson Foundation:
The Harold Robinson Foundation is a 501(c)3 founded in 2009 by Jeff Robinson, Joyce Hyser Robinson and David Moss. It began with an idea from Jeff Robinson, almost 20 years ago; that every child should have the same opportunities he had as a kid, no matter where they stand on the socioeconomic ladder. The foundation is named for Jeff's late father. Harold Robinson Foundation provides the funding and resources to send Los Angeles's less fortunate children to camp, in a safe and nurturing environment, far away from the stress that most of them face on a daily basis.
