HDL, Inc. Supporting Tour de France Runner Zoe Romano
Richmond ultra-endurance runner raising money for the World Pediatric Project, health and wellness, in 2,000-plus mile journey
RICHMOND, Va., July 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. (HDL, Inc.) has sponsored local runner Zoe Romano during her nine-week run of the Tour de France course. The 2,000-plus mile trek, which will raise money for the Richmond-based World Pediatric Project, began May 18 and is expected to finish a day before the peloton arrives in Paris this Saturday, July 20.
Romano, 26, became the first woman to run across the continental U.S. without a support vehicle in 2011. Searching for an even bigger and more difficult challenge, Romano decided to run the Tour to not only raise money for the international humanitarian organization that sends children's doctors to developing nations, but to stress the importance of health and wellness through exercise – however extreme it may be, as she will make elevation changes equivalent to three-and-a-half Mount Everest climbs.
"We have enjoyed watching Zoe as she climbs and descends throughout the mountains and countrysides of France and are proud to attach our name to someone with such big goals and aspirations," said Tonya Mallory, HDL, Inc.'s CEO, President and Co-founder. "We continue to wish her a steady and safe journey as she makes her way to the finish line ahead of the cyclists."
HDL, Inc.'s support of Romano includes specific sponsorship days of July 18, 19, and 20, as she enters Paris and finishes her run along the Champs-Elysees. Both Romano and boyfriend Alexander Kreher, a filmmaker documenting her journey, will visit HDL, Inc. to speak to employees in the fall. Romano has thus far raised $130,000 for the World Pediatric Project. For more information on the run, and to view video and blog updates, visit www.zoegoesrunning.com.
